Mobile Banking Now the New Target of Cyber Criminals

Due to the hit smart phones, cyber criminals are now targeting mobile banking in the coming months.

Information technology experts have warned that mobile phones will be the next target. Queensland police has also declared that battling cyber crime has been its toughest challenge ever since policing began.

Hackers are only waiting for more users to shift to mobile banking according to online security firm Trustees, Amil Klein. Instead of going through computers to hack personal data of clients, a new malware would now target mobile phones in response to the need to get instant cash.

“The only thing that they are probably waiting for is a critical mass in online banking moving to mobile devices. Once the money is there, they’ll be there within, not years this time, but months,” Mr. Klein said.

The scope and cost of hackers was unprecedented and police were struggling to keep up with them worldwide. This was expressed in a conference yesterday by Queensland Police Service Fraud Squad’s Detective Superintendent Brian Hay.

“You show me another crime type that permeates the environment with greater speed on a global scale, on a second-by-second basis, that affects more people and costs them more money. The single PlayStation incident recently put more than 77 million people worldwide at risk,” he said.

A website was recently found by the Queensland Police. It is hosted in Vietnam and has published credit card and personal details of over 1000 Australians. An Australian website has already been hacked but was not reported to the police.

Supt. Hay understands why websites do not report such cases as they only want to protect their brands.

“A new type of phone might come out and within a week it might be compromised, Security companies have the technical skills and the equipment and we need to gain their intelligence,” Hays said.

It is suggested that there has to be a high degree of collaboration or cooperation between the government, police, and security areas.

A new “internet Interpol” will increase cooperation among police worldwide according to Eugene Kaspersky, founder of Kaspersky Labs.

These cyber crimes are proliferating due to the fact that people who engage in such crimes have needs for Quick Cash Loan and are not probably aware of the options available such as Instant Cash Loan.
