Stocks Ended Mixed on Last Days before Christmas

On Thursday, a day before the celebration of Christmas, stocks were found mixed in a light day of trading. The reports showed small improvements in consumer spending and job market that is obviously lessening the ratio of the quick cash loans lending. Cash loans such as payday cash advance, payday cash loan, cash advance payday loans and other cash loan types were expected to increase due to holiday seasons arrival.

There report under the US Department of Commerce showing that consumer spending rose 0.4 percent in November from the month before. 0.5 percent gain was slight expected by the government.

The US Department of Labor on the other hand reported that the number of people applying for unemployment benefits for the first time fell down by 3, 000 last week to 420, 000. The low increase indicates modest growth to the government.

Marked drop may be overlooked in the jobless numbers but still there is a steady decline as said by Quincy Krosby, a market strategist at Prudential Financial. He added that the four-week moving average suggests that the government is starting to see a floor initial unemployment claims.

The Dow rose 0.7 percent during the shortened trading week. The Nasdag went higher with 0.8 percent while the S&P rose one percent. Alcoa on the other hand make the Dow which gained 1.3 percent to $US15.34 to lead the 30 stocks. It is said that the Bank of America had the largest fall as it lost 2.4 percent to $US13.06.

Jo-Ann Stores said in one of the corporate news that it would be bought by a private equity firm for $US1.6 billion that would make the stock rose 32 percent to $US60.19.

The 10-year Treasury note rose to 3.39 percent from 3.35 percent on late Wednesday. The dollar also fell down 0.3 percent against an index of 6 heavily-traded currencies.

On the New York stock exchange, all the falling stocks outpaced rising ones by a small margin. 616 million shares were in mass volume on the last trading day before Christmas. Markets are expected to close on Friday for the Holiday.
