US Economic Fix through Printing of Money
Robert Mugabe, a Zimbabwean dictator has been reported to print a lot of money over such a long period that its national currency has become almost worthless. On the other han, a finance professor from the Australian School of Business, University of New South Wales Peter Swan hinted last weekend that it would pursue another round of quantitative easing effectively printing more money to stimulate its economy and reduce the likelihood of deflation.
That deflation affects the dollar as it briefly touched parity with the greenback for the first time since that of currency was floated in 1983. The US has failed to boost its economy since the Global Financial Crisis using the traditional tools of monetary and fiscal policy. According also to Prof Swan, the US Federal Reserve lowered its interest rates to close to zero again as it did in the lead up to the Sub-Prime Crisis.
The US Federal Reserve is now searching for another round of quantitative easing wherein the central bank will buy up US government treasuries debt to increase the supply of money in the economy by driving down the value of the US dollar. This move will make American exports cheaper and their imports dearer. To reduce the purchasing power of money is by printing so much money and make the US dollar much less valuable. Also, the government desire to make investors around the world for fewer US dollars.
Prof Swan thought of this as disastrous policy as he believes that the government can’t lower interest rates much more but can flood the market with US dollars.
